Heritage holds Caregiver Education sessions

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging will hold Caregiver Educations sessions at least twice each month.  Classes are free and open to the public.  Locations and topics will vary, but classes will be held the second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. and the fourth Friday at Noon.  Please call Lejla Ford at (319) 398-5559 or 1-866-432-4324 for more information.

Medicare and the Marketplace – September 2013

How will the Health Insurance Marketplace that starts in 2014 affect Medicare and supplemental health insurance coverage?  “The Marketplace is designed to help people who don’t have any health insurance,” says Kris Gross from the state of Iowa’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).  Iowans on Medicare have health insurance through Medicare. The Marketplace won’t have any effect on their Medicare coverage.

National Council on Aging (NCOA) Advises How to Recognize Today’s Scams

            The NCOA works with organizations, businesses and government to help seniors sustain quality lives through healthy living, activity and independence.  They recently prepared “22 Tips for Avoiding Scams & Swindles.”   (Yes, there’s a LOT of tips because there are so many scams and swindles out there!)  At the top of their list is health insurance and Medicare frauds and scams – take a look at these tips.

Heritage holds Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Event

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging’s Advisory Council held its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Event at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center on the Kirkwood Community College campus in Cedar Rapids on May 24, 2012. This event provides updates from the agency and honors members of the community that are nominated for awards by their peers.
