Heritage knows the importance of access to adequate nutrition and wellness opportunities

Congregate Meals: Heritage funds almost 20 meal sites in its seven-county region. Congregate dining offers the chance to enjoy a meal, socialize and participate in educational programs. Click here to find a site in your county.

Encore Café: The award-winning take on congregate dining goes beyond the meal to focus on diners’ overall health and wellness and offers opportunities to socialize. Find the monthly menus posted on the Encore page and remember to call to make reservations: (319) 398-2585.

Encore Express: A spin-off of the Café program, Encore Express provides vouchers for meals at participating Hy-Vee stores. Express is available in Washington County and in certain Cedar Rapids neighborhoods. To learn about the program in Washington, click here. Home-Delivered Meals: Programs like Meals on Wheels are available to adults ages 60+ and their spouses when one or both have a medical condition or mobility issue that prevents them from participating at the local dining site. For questions about programs in your community and eligibility, please call Heritage.

Wellness Programs at Heritage AAA address your health on the plate and beyond. From finding local produce to getting your body moving, these programs have proven over time to improve our consumers’ overall well-being.

  • Chronic Disease Self-Management Education: gain self-confidence in your ability to control symptoms and learn how health concerns affect your life. The program has helped participants better manage chronic conditions, improve quality of life and lower health care costs.

  • Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program: available starting each June, the program is available to adults ages 60+ who meet income guidelines. Participants receive ten $5.00 checks that are redeemable at participating farmers market vendors. Note: Heritage AAA is out of checks for the 2023 season.

  • Nutrition Counseling: a 1-on-1 session with a registered dietitian to discuss specific dietary needs and concerns related to aging or personal health conditions.

  • Evidence-Based Classes: Heritage offers classes that address a variety of topics including balance, falls prevention, water aerobics, Tai chi and more. Contact our office to find a class near you.
